Shimon

Shimon was the first robot to take part in a rap battle. I worked on how it interacts with people and on its real-time performance systems - for concerts like Shimon Sings at the Fox and a performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live with the band Coin.

Shimon is a robotic musician from the Robotic Musicianship Lab at Georgia Tech’s Center for Music Technology.

In 2020 it set a Guinness World Record as the first robot to take part in a rap battle. In 2022 it played Jimmy Kimmel Live with the band Coin, and in 2024 it was featured at the Festival De Las Ideas in Puebla, Mexico.

I worked on how Shimon interacts with people and on its real-time performance systems, including for Shimon Sings at the Fox, a live public concert.
