A web and iOS app that uses deep learning to pull songs apart into instruments, so anyone can build a mashup in minutes.

Mixboard is a web and iOS app for music lovers with no production experience. Deep-learning source separation splits pop songs into their instruments, and the app builds mashups from the parts of different songs.

We studied how to share the creative control between the person and the app, and published the work at NIME 2023 and CMMR 2023.

The method is covered by US patent publication US 2024/0265899 A1, “Systems and methods for combining audio samples”, and the app is licensed for commercial use to Sound Media VC.
